Management Support System (MSS)

Management Support Systems (MSS) create visibility, reinforces behavior changes, and ensures sustainability by providing a framework between people, processes, and systems.

Management Support Systems (MSS) are computer-based systems that are supposed to be used by, or at least to support managers.

What is Management Support System (MSS)?

MSS is an information system that integrates the functional capabilities of a decision support system, executive information system, and knowledge-based or expert system.

There are three types of Management Support Systems, namely:

Decision Support Systems:

Decision support systems (DSS) are designed to support the deci¬sion making process of managers to improve their effectiveness and thereby efficiency of the enterprise.

DSS are also described as interactive information systems that help managers utilize data analysis models to solve unstruc¬tured problems. DSS uses technologies that may be termed as its building blocks.

Executive Information (support) Systems:

EIS offers up-to-date information on differ¬ent aspects of the executive’s interest. The briefing is, generally, related to the performance of various profit centres and offers sta¬tus reports on various activities of the enterprise.

In EIS, the informa¬tion is automatically downloaded periodically from databases in the form of finished reports. This automatic downloading ensures that executive does not remain out of touch for long during the days of extreme pressure of workload.

Expert Systems:

A business expert system can act as an aid to manage¬rial effectiveness by providing advice. A business expert system receives a problem from the user, identi¬fies its data requirements, analyses the relevant data against the decision rules.Once the problem is solved, the system through its inference engine reports the solution to the user and is also able to explain its line of reasoning in reaching that solution.

What DTS- MSS Provides:

DTS-MSS provide information to manage for planning and decision making.

We provide integrated environment for these support tools and systems that support rather than replace "managers" in their decision-making activities.
